Latoya Talks Thursday: How I Spent Mother’s Day 2018!

6 1/2 years ago I became a mother. I have to say it’s been one of the most rewarding experiences of my life. Every day I have two little people that rely and depend on me. It can be quite stressful but also fulfilling. Watching them grow has giving me some of the most astonishing moments in my life thus far. It’s so hard to believe that my oldest will be 7 this year!  My baby (Austin) is no longer a baby. He’ll be off to preschool this year and I still find it quite bittersweet.

This year my family decided to spend Mother’s Day differently. We drove the 45-minute drive to my home town of New Roads, Louisiana and visited my grandmother’s. It’s always quite a nostalgic moment when I return to New Roads. It’s a very small town and I can’t help but to run into someone I went to high school with. Which can sometimes be nice, other times not so much.

I ate soooo much this Mother’s Day! My father cooked a slightly large selection for my mom and I definitely ate my part! That’s mostly what I remember about Mother’s Day.  Eating, eating some more, going to a restaurant to eat again, then to my sister’s house where her and my brother in law boiled a seafood extravaganza for the women in their life. I ate there as well. As I said Mother’s Day was all about eating for me.

My boys made me individual cards and art craft trinkets that I will stowaway and cherish forever. After all I wouldn’t be a mom without them.

I’m so grateful for these two-handsome smart young men. I know Mother’s Day is a day to show appreciation for moms because they do so much. One day just isn’t enough. We give so much, we defy the odds and single mothers such as myself become superhuman. I thank God for entrusting me with the gift of life. I will cherish every moment, I will continue to instill wholesome values, morals and integrity into these young men. But most of all I will continue to shower them with love, protect them from the evil that surrounds them, while also allowing them to experience life.

I would like to give a special thank you to my family and a really great friend for helping me celebrate Mother’s Day.

Here’s a short video of me enjoying Mother’s Day!
